AGENDA : What is different about the Florida Standards assessment? Instructional implications for teaching the standards? When will students take the FSA? What is the design of both the FSA ELA Assessment? Third grade promotion/retention How to help your child succeed?

W HAT IS D IFFERENT ABOUT THE F LORIDA S TANDARDS A SSESSMENTS ? Assesses the higher expectations of the Florida Standards Provides a basis for comparing Florida performance to that of other states Emphasizes analytical thinking Provides a more authentic assessment through a variety of item formats Increased complexity of texts Focus on foundational math skills and application in novel, real- world situations Increased focus on justifying and presenting results and methods Critical reading and writing infused across all curricular areas Re-ordering of math content to reflect research-based path to college and career readiness
