 Tumakuru is near to Bangalore with 10 Taluks and 2,574 Villages.  Population (census 2011) : 26,78,980 o 74% literacy o (Male 82.05% and female 66.45%)  80 % live in rural areas.  Agriculture main occupation  70% agriculture work force  25% other workforce  5% House hold industries.

o Bangalore to Mumbai Industrial Corridor o Tumakuru District identified as smart City o 32- Large and Medium scale industries employing 6,958 persons o Hon’ble Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi has inaugurated Food Park at Tumkur o A unit of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) is given 772 acres of land. The unit would come up at an estimated cost of Rs. 4,000 crore and it is expected to create 3,000 jobs. o KIADB has acquired more than 5000 acres of land to develop industrial hub. o 22,857 Small scale industries employing 1,27,297 persons

Tumkur University is Identified and permitted for Modular Employability Schemes (MES) - Vocational Training Provider for 74 courses of 18 sectors VTP Registration Number; Already 5 batches are trained under this scheme. UGC has sanctioned two B.Voc courses (B.Voc in Hardware Technology and Networking, B.Voc in Visual and applied art) to Tumkur University. Statutory requirements are completed. CBCS – Choice Based Credit System is introduced in Post Graduate Departments and Priority is given for skill based courses. Proposed for finishing school under RUSA.

Tumkur university is working to develop Skill based curricula for few certificate and diploma courses in all disciplines. Tumkur university is planning to introduce few more MES courses on: o Food Processing and Preservation o Hospitality and Tourism o Construction Industry o Coir technology o Organic Waste Management o Drinking Water Management

RECOMMENDATIONS: Choice Based Credit System with Modular Employability scheme. Skill development courses will be identified based local development and demand. Each College will have - Compulsory Skill Training, Development and Placement Cells. Finishing school component will be enforced in the curricula. UG and PG Curricula will have component of Field / Industry / Institutions requirements. Corporate Social Responsibility facility will be linked with skill development We recommend One Central National University exclusively for Vocational courses and skill development. Self Employment training Institutes will be linked with national banks.
