Making a chart in Excel An overview on how to make a simple chart using Microsoft Excel
Basic Instructions Part 6 of this lesson contains a spreadsheet with the data already entered. There are also some cells that are used as column headers. This presentation will instruct you on how to make a simple chart from that data. Feel free to change the data or use your own data for this exercise.
Note: You may have to click on the tools/utilities button in Excel to bring up the toolbar that contains the chart button. You need to do this to view the ‘Standard’ toolbar.
Start with your spreadsheet Note the ‘City’ and ‘Population’ headers
Click down on the ‘A’ button and drag to the ‘B’ button and then release. Select your columns
Select the chart tool
The wizard comes up: Use the default type and sub-type and press next:
At the next screen, press next
Keep pressing next or finish until you see your chart.
Experiment with different chart types.
Press the ‘back’ key on your browser to get back to select part 6 and try this for yourself. (You may have to press ‘back’ twice)
