Information about the geographical areas that secondary schools recruited from for entry in September 2014 are available on line This information will help you to consider whether your child is likely to be offered a place at a Royal Greenwich secondary school. The areas around each school on the map indicates the last (furthest away) place that was offered to a child based on distance. The distance from home to school is measured as a straight line from the centre of the home address to the main entrance of the school. Many schools use a banding system to make sure that the school has, as far as possible, an even balance of pupils of different abilities. Children are placed in one of five ability bands (1a, 1b, 2a, 2b and 3), depending on the scores they obtained in tests taken in year five. If you are looking at the distances schools recruited from, you should search by the relevant ability band. If you need advice about whether your child is likely to be offered a place at a particular school based upon the distance from your home to a particular school, please contact the School Admissions Service. If there are more applications than there are places available at a school, the admission authority for the school will use its admission criteria to decide which applicants should be offered a place. Decisions about offers of places in community and voluntary controlled secondary schools are the responsibility of the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Decisions about admitting children to academies, free schools, voluntary aided schools, and Catholic places at St Paul’s Academy are made by the governing body First priority will go to children with a statement of special educational needs where the school is named on the statement. Remaining places will be given in the following order: 1.Looked after children and previously looked after children who have been adopted or become subject to a residence or special guardianship order immediately after having been looked after. 2.Children with a sibling living at the same address who already attends the school at the time the child will be admitted. 3.Children or an immediate family member with an acute medical or social need for a particular school. 4.Other children based on home to school distance. 5.If two applicants live an equal distance from the school, the offer of a place will be decided by random allocation.

Offers of places Preferences will be considered individually under each school’s admission criteria If more than one offer can be made from your list of preferred schools, the one ranked highest will be offered. If only one offer can be made from your list, that school is the one you will be offered. if it is not possible to offer any of your preference schools, your child will be allocated a place at the nearest Royal Greenwich school that has vacancies after offers have been made. Please note that a school’s status (i.e. academy, community, free, voluntary aided or voluntary controlled) is not taken into consideration when allocating places.
