Destiny Library Manager 11.0 New Features
Chrome “Fix” Chrome Sounds/Focus Fix Feature Description: Customers using Google Chrome for Windows in previous Destiny releases experienced a problem with the cursor not staying in the barcode field for proper scanning in circulation functions. Destiny products use the Chrome QuickTime plug-in to play circulation sounds, and a defect in Chrome’s support for QuickTime sounds caused the issue. With Destiny 11.0, Chrome support under Windows uses a different plug-in (VLC Media Player), which does not expose the Chrome defect and ensures that the cursor stays in the barcode field for proper scanning in circulation transactions. In Destiny prior to 11.0, issues with Chrome may have occurred. Sounds missing or not correct in checkin, checkout, etc The curser would not stay in the box for checkin/checkout
Chrome “Fix” Feature Information: If you use Chrome for Windows, you will want to install this plug-in to ensure that circulation sounds play properly. To check if it’s already installed, typechrome://plugins into the address bar in Chrome, find VLC Web Plugin, and make sure it’s enabled. If it is not installed, you can download it from: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html When you install VLC, it asks you to choose which components to install. If you want to use VLC solely as a Chrome plug-in, deselect everything except Media Player, Mozilla Plugin, and ActiveX plugin. Access Level: All Users Importance: This fix corrects the circulation sound issue experienced with previous versions of Destiny and Chrome.
RDA Compatibility RDA (Resource Description and Access) expands the patrons’ ability to find, identify, select, and obtain resources. MARC records in RDA format contain more information as to the content type (Ex. performed music, still image), media type (Ex. audio, video), and carrier type (Ex. videodisc, flipchart). In Destiny Library Manager, you can convert MARC records that follow AACR2 cataloging rules to follow the new RDA cataloging rules. Note: You must convert MARC records one at a time. The preferred cataloging (AACR2 or RDA) is a district – wide decision. It is not something to be decided on quickly

Homeroom Enhancements The format of the Homeroom field in patron records has become much more important.
Holds Enhancements What’s New in Destiny 11.0 pp. 35-40
HOLDS *Allowing patrons (students and teachers) to place their own holds is one of the easiest ways to get your patrons to interact with Destiny. *If you have concerns (or have had issues with your students placing EVERYTHING on hold) you can resolve this. MAX Holds Ready Holds Expire in Pending Holds Expire in Default Hold Priority
Holds Enhancements Place holds on more than one copy of an item We have enhanced the holds functionality based on enhancement requests from our customers: Place holds on more than one copy of an item No holds on lost copies No holds on copies that are hidden Do not allow holds on copies that are available Relate ISBNs for holds Why would you want anyone to place holds on more than one copy? Teachers, perhaps? This is handled in access levels, so you are able to set this differently for each access level. FINALLY, students aren’t able to place holds on lost copies. It’s very frustrating for a child to wait months for a book, finally ask about it at the circulation desk and find it is NEVER going to be available. If a copy is hidden you probably don’t want anyone to be able to place a hold on it. Are any copies hidden in the collection? Holds on available books – this can be set differently at each library. Relate ISBNs for holds – do you have hardback/paperback in the same or different record? This MUST be done at a site level.
Holds Enhancements You are now able to group titles of the same book (with different MARC records). This must be done at the site level and is time intensive. I would suggest only popular titles. Don’t waste your time doing others.
Holds Enhancements
Holds Enhancements
Holds Enhancements Now, when a student want to put Old Man’s Cave on hold it will pull the hold from any of the three records.

Follett eBooks & Destiny What’s New in Destiny 11.0 pp. 43-46 *Using eBooks in Destiny was the first time we really saw students become involved in Destiny. Added Labels for Series What’s New in Destiny 11.0 p. 41 *Did you know that on June 1, 2006 the Library of Congress changed the way it works with series? We have found since this time that series are not consistently included in MARC records and are not consistent by series title. *Series are a GREAT way for your students to want to interact with Destiny. The children’s/young adult publishing world has become obsessed with series and so have our students. *We have middle schools who have moved to Series “walls” and find it is vital that series are traced and the tracings include order/volume number. How do you make this happen?
Added Labels for Series
Updating Series *Must have rights to edit titles 4. Make certain you are using Easy Editor (You can switch between Easy and MARC editors) 5. Select the Series/Notes tab 6. You may add/edit series AND Lexile Levels from this screen. 7. Make certain you Save Title when finished.
