GEO Work Plan Symposium 2015 Energy: new initiatives Thierry Ranchin

Preliminary Remarks No specific EO system or program dedicated to Energy  Use of EO systems and programs from others SBA But EO data or information sets dedicated to Energy  A lot of resources available within GEOSS (from Data Core resources to web services all compliant with the GCI)

GEOSS Energy Community Portal: Webservice-energy.org

Both existing and growing energy sources can be considered when organizing the SBA

New organization C7: EO data and mineral resources part of EN-01 ( + SB- 05-C2) I4: EO data and renewable energies part of EN-01 ( + SB- 05-C1)

Tentative targets Develop tools and Information for the Resource Assessment, Monitoring and Forecasting of Renewable energy sources (including solar, wind, ocean, hydropower, and biomass, geothermal) Develop products and services required to assess countries' potential for energy production. Foster the use of Earth observation and information in energy-policy planning Identify user needs for specific renewable energy data sets

Forthcoming activities in I4 (2015 and further) Not limited to the following list… ConnectinGEO project ( ) for identification of essential variables for renewable energies, gap analysis and industrial challenges on in-situ measurements COPERNICUS MACC service for Solar Radiation Participation to AIP-8 (2015) If successful: ERA PLANET Tentative launch of an industrial professorship dedicated to GEOSS and renewable energies.
