Ms. Stewart’s 5 th grade class

Remember? What does a plant cell have that an animal cell does not have? Chloroplast Cell wall What is needed for photosynthesis? Water Sunlight Carbon Dioxide

When animal cells are put together, what do they make? Tissue Did you know that plant cells also form tissue?

Plant tissues? Xylem Carries water and nutrients up to the leaves Found in leaves and stems Hollow and hard Phloem Carries sugars and nutrients throughout the plant from the leaves Soft

How does nourishment happen? Roots-absorb water and nutrients Xylem-transports water and nutrients to leaves

And then… Photosynthesis occurs What do plants ‘eat’? Phloem-takes nutrients and food back through plant Why do plants need nourishment?

Let’s Review……. What part of the plant absorbs water? Roots What does the xylem carry? Water and nutrients Which part of the plant takes sucrose (sugar) throughout the plant? Phloem

Activity Time As a group, you will explain to the class the nourishment process of a plant. Each group will explain the process in a creative way, other than standing up and talking to the class. Examples can include singing a song, acting out in a play or writing a poem. If your group thinks of another way to present to the class, your idea must get approval from the teacher. **Remember, all group members must participate and be cooperative and respectful of everyone else’s ideas.
