US News Rankings Schools are categorized by mission derived from Carnegie classification National Universities Offer full range of undergraduate majors, plus master’s and Ph.D. programs, and emphasize faculty research Must be regionally accredited and have at least 200 students 280 institutions, including UMKC Gather data from each school in 16 areas related to academic excellence Each factor is assigned a weight that reflects how much it matters Colleges are ranked against their peers based on their composite weighted score Two Tiers Tier 1 – top 75% of schools (Institutions ranked 1 to 201) Tier 2 – bottom 25% of schools (Institutions ranked 203 to 268) UMKC ranked 189 th in 2015 rankings
