Correlating Go Math & Standards for Mathematical Practices By Amanda Davis & Jacque Ketchum Kelly Springs Elementary School

Standard 1. Makes sense of problems and perseveres in solving them. Understands the problem and looks for entry points to its solution Designs a plan Analyzes information (givens, constrains, relationships, goals) Checks their answers to problems and ask, “Does this make sense?” Monitors and evaluates the progress and changes course as necessary H.O.T. Problem Go Math Lesson 3.11 Test Prep Go Math Lesson 3.12 H.O.T. Problem Go Math Lesson 3.12 Write Math Go Math Lesson 4.2 H.O.T. Problem Go Math Lesson 4.4

Standard 2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. Makes sense of quantities and relationships Represents a problem symbolically Understands and uses properties of operations UNLOCK the Problem Go Math lesson 3.10

Standard 3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. Asks useful questions to clarify or improve the arguments Listens or reads the arguments of others Communicates and defends their mathematical reasoning using objects, drawings, diagrams, actions Decide if the arguments of others make sense Makes conjectures and attempts to prove or disprove through examples and counterexamples Video UNLOCK the Problem Go Math Lesson 3.12 Draw Conclusions Go Math Lesson 4.2 Write Math Go Math Lesson 4.3 Try This! Go Math Lesson 4.4

Standard 4. Model with mathematics. Apply reasoning to create a plan or analyze a real world problem Applies formulas/equations Makes assumptions and approximations to make a problem simpler Checks to see if an answer makes sense and changes a model when necessary Video UNLOCK the Problem Go Math Lesson 3.9 Problem of the Day Go Math Lesson 3.12 Problem Solving Go Math Lesson 3.12 H.O.T. Problem Go Math Lesson 4.1 Problem Solving Go Math Lesson 4.2 H.O.T. Problem Go Math Lesson 4.3

Standard 5. Use appropriate tools strategically. Identifies relevant external math resources and uses them to pose or solve problems Centers Makes sound decisions about the use of specific tools Calculators Uses technological tools to explore and deepen understanding of concepts Computers Try This! Go Math Lesson 3.12 Investigate Go Math Lesson 4.2 Share and Show Go Math Lesson 4.2

Standard 6. Attend to precision. Communicates and defends their mathematical reasoning using objects, drawings, diagrams, actions Decide if the arguments of others make sense Listen or reads the arguments of others Uses definitions and previously established results in constructing arguments Ask useful questions to clarify or improve the arguments Share and Show Go Math Lesson 3.11 Make Connections Go Math Lesson 4.2 UNLOCK the Problem Go Math Lesson 4.3 One Way Go Math Lesson 4.4

Standard 7. Look for and make use of structure. Video Looks for patterns or structure Recognize the significance in concepts and models and can apply strategies for solving related problems Looks for the big picture or overview Try This! Go Math Lesson 3.10 Share and Show Go Math Lesson 3.10 UNLOCK the Problem Go Math Lesson 4.1 Share and Show Go Math Lesson 4.1 Another Way Go Math Lesson 4.3

Standard 8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. Notices repeated calculations and looks for general methods and shortcuts Continually evaluates the reasonableness of their results while attending to details and makes generalizations based on findings Solves problems arising in everyday life Problem Solving Go Math Lesson 3.10 UNLOCK the Problem Go Math Lesson 3.11 Solve the Problem Go Math Lesson 3.11

Standard 8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. Notices repeated calculations and looks for general methods and shortcut.
