Presentation transcript:

“ Today’s e-learning content and LMS systems are limited by the current standards for tracking trainee performance (AICC/SCORM). “ “If a data element was not "on the list", it could not be recorded unless there was custom LMS development. “ “With…CMI-5…Designers of content can record virtually any data they need and their content will pass that data to any CMI-5 compliant LMS; the limitations on what is possible to record in your LMS will be lifted.” The Problem CMI5 Seeks to Solve 1

CMI5 changed the implementation approach when xAPI came about Now CMI5 is an implementation of xAPI, and is a pretty mature profile Dedicated GitHub site: Weekly call furthering the implementation (close to finished) “Their” Approach 2

AICC is transitioning CMI5 and all other IP to ADL so “They” becomes “Us” CMI5 retains current membership as well as current leadership (William McDonald) ADL will mirror their GitHub Site and support effort A win-win as ADL will harmonize xAPI, CMI5 and the SCORM Profile while AICC’s hard work remains alive and prospering But…What You May Not Know 3

CMI5 is an xAPI implementation based on lessons learned from SCORM and other specs to have learning and training content in the traditional (LMS) environment behave in an interoperable way. The SCORM Profile is an EXACT mapping of SCORM to xAPI. All of the benefits of SCORM, but none of the lessons learned that CMI5 has. CMI5 Vs. SCORM Profile 4

So…if you: – Are starting from scratch or have never heard of SCORM – Are dissatisfied with an area of SCORM – Are using an LMS-type solution Use CMI5, but use the SCORM Profile if you: – Are trying to do SCORM on Mobile or other non-LMS environments – Need every SCORM data point mapped to xAPI – Are looking for a practical starting point in moving from SCORM to xAPI CMI5 Vs. SCORM Profile 5
