Why did Jesus plan the Last Supper? The Jewish leaders did not like Jesus because he was more popular than most of them. Jesus knew that they were planning to get rid of him and would succeed, so he planned a last Passover meal with his disciples. Does anyone know what the Passover is?

The Last Supper During the meal, Jesus used some of the elements of the meal to symbolize himself: “This is my body which is given for you.” – Bread was used to represent his body. “This is God’s new covenant sealed with my blood.” – Wine was used to represent his blood. These are used in every communion in Christian Churches. It is properly called Eucharist which is Greek for ‘thank-you’. Christians are thanking Jesus for sacrificing himself to make up for their wrongdoings. This is the most important ritual in the Christian Church. The Garden of Gethsemane Here, Jesus goes to pray that he might find a way out of his fate. However, he knew that he must go through with his ordeal in order to pay for all of mankind’s wrongdoings. Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus’ disciples betrayed Jesus by kissing him to point him out to the guards. Jesus was accused of treason and blasphemy, both of which were punishable by death. Jesus was then taken before the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate and asked the same question, which was given the same answer. The Crucifixion When they were preparing Jesus to be nailed to the cross, the Roman soldiers mocked him. They clothed him in a robe, put a crown of thorns upon his heads and spat on him. Jesus asked God to forgive them as they did not realise what they were doing. Once at Golgotha, where he was to be executed, Jesus’ hands and feet were nailed to his cross. The Crucifixion The Roman soldiers also pierced Jesus’ side with a spear to make sure he died. Two other criminals were crucified with him. One insulted Jesus, saying that if he was the Messiah, then he could save them all. The other, however showed faith in Jesus and Jesus promised him eternal life. Near to death Jesus said; “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46) The sun disappeared just before Jesus died at 3 o’clock Copy me!!

The Resurrection On Sunday morning, three women went to the tomb to put spices on Jesus' body. Instead they met two angels who told them that Jesus had risen. These women ran and told the disciples what they had seen, but they did not believe them. Peter however went to the tomb and saw it was empty. Some distance from Jerusalem, Jesus appeared to two men on the road. They did not recognise him. They told Jesus about the rumours that he had risen. The Ascension The two men who had seen Jesus went to Jerusalem and found the disciples and Jesus appeared among them. They were all afraid but Jesus reassured them and proved his identity by showing them his wounds. Jesus, had told them that he would send the Holy Spirit in his place. Outside the city, Jesus was taken up to Heaven. This is called the Ascension. Explain, in detail, what Christians mean by the Ascension.
