Presentation: “ Entry points: Lesvos & Chios” - MdM Greece

Lesvos & Chios MdM - Greece Doctors of the World – Greece are standing by the side of migrants supporting their needs in both medical and social services. Greece, due to its geographical position, is a key entry point to Europe for thousands of refugees and migrants. Regions like Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Leros, Evros and many other land and sea borders are frequent entry points. Entry Points Situation in the field The current infrastructure is inadequate and cannot cover the numerous needs or solve the issues, especially those related to medical care.

MdM collaborate with the local organisations in order to better tackle the increasing needs of the migrant population. Based on the social history taken by the social workers of the team in the field, we can see that the destination – country of the newly arrived people is not Greece, but other European countries (percentage 86,67%, which means cases). 9,19% (229 cases) reported they have not decided yet. Based on the evaluation of the psychologist of the unit, the most frequent psychological disorders that the beneficiaries suffer from are the following: 51,44 %:affective disorders such as anxiety and mood disorders 33,25 %:sleep or appetite disorders 15,31 % Comorbidity (aggressive and self-destructive tendencies, social withdrawal, cognitive deficits, psychotic disorders, memory problems, PTS (post-traumatic stress).
