2 million inhabitants 17% older than 64 13% older than 69 In 2010, LE at age 65 in Slovenia - 21 years for women - 17 years for men. women at 65 could expect 6.1 years and men at 65 could expect 4.3 years with severe activity limitation (SILK 2010)

Pensions in Slovenia 25% of Slovene population retired 57% pensions below poverty level (<600 €) 50% >69 live in 2-members houshold 80% pensions <800 € Prices in homes for elderly Lowest care – 500 to 800 € Highest care 1000 to 1300 €

Do poor older people have right to spend last years of life in dignity? 30% of older people in Slovenia threathened by poverty 80% of them are women >69 Who will pay long-term care for them?

Results of Slovene survey 2013 project Elderly for Elderly (included older than 69) 48,7% without activity limitation 39,5% with moderate activity limitation 11,8% with severe activity limitation

Care for sick and disabled older in Slovenia 4% in homes for elderly <1% paid home assistance (max.3 hours /day) 15% of >69 – volunteers assistance (Elderly for Elderly) – on 64% of territory of Slovenia ? % covered by paid carers in black market Majority covered by informal carers – relatives and neighbours

Women are most frequent informal carers of older people Employment of women in Slovenia 61,8% Employment of women with children 90% unemployed persons in 2014

Care for sick and disabled is humanitarian work It has several other implications : Sociological Psychological Economical Emotional Ethical Medical Political

How to achieve these goals? Older people have right to choose where they will spend last years of life Integrated home care is the best solution for elderly and for the society Informal carers need support of the state and local community

We need Convention! With active citizenship of older people themselves With support of yunger generations With international support

Main concernes of SFPA How to mobilize older people to fight for their human rights? How to push social and health care experts to collaboration? How to change the attitude of experts and politicians to older population?
