Professional Life Hanafuda was his first card game. All of the cards were hand painted. He opened his first Hanafuda card shop, Nintendo Koppai Fusajiro Yamauchi purchased this building which became Nintendo's first headuqarters in 1889. (picture on right) With Hanafuda cards in demand Nintendo quickly became the top game company in Japan. Over the next forty years his small store expanded into a major corporation. There was an expensive library of original card games developed specifically for Nintendo was added then.
Interesting Facts Nintendo – the rough translation of this word means “leave luck to the stars” Before fame Yamauchi made a fortune selling playing cards and almost lost his entire fortune trying to branch out. His son-in-law Sekiryo (Kaneda) Yamauchi took on his wife’s last name to in a sense keep Nintendo in the Yamauchi name.
