Malaysian Ministry of Education Evolution of Revised National Higher Education Strategic Plan-2011 Plans for Big Ideas Massive Open Online Courses MOOCs – 11 th Big Idea ( Intensification of Online Learning) In line with the National e-Learning Policy (DePAN, launched in April 2011) MOOCs are based on the philosophy of Open Education – “Education for All” of the United Nation.

MOOC Implementation Plans 1 st Develop 4 general subjects TITAS (Tamadun Islam & Tamadun Asia –Islamic Civilization & Asian Civilization) Ethnic Relations IT literacy Entrepreneurship Require 13 Public Institutions of Higher Learning register with the Open Courseware Consortium 2 nd Develop and upload other general subjects into the same platform

Current Status The first MOOC course offered in Malaysia was by Taylor’s college in March 2013 – Entrepreneurship July 2013 – Achieving success with Emotional Intelligence April 2014 –PutraMOOC – Public University Major Trial run on July 17 th 2014 involving 3 platforms Open4Learning (open4learn.upsi.edu.my) : am Open Learning ( : am Coursesite ( : am Malaysian Ministry of Education – % of courses offered at Public Higher Education Institutions will be online
