Genocide In Rwanda By: Marisa and Megyn
The Tutsis & The Hutus -Rwanda was split into parts: the Tutsis and Hutus -Colonial administration put Tutsis into a position of dominance therefore they were in charge and had more power -When a Hutu leader was killed the Hutus overthrew the Tutsis -Hutus began murdering the Tutsis and any surpporters
The Help - France and Belgium were the former colonial power in Rwanda - They sent troops to help control the slaughter - The UN sent in peacekeepers as well - Canadian Lieutenant General Romeo Dallaire with the UN, had a military plan
Romeo Dallaire - Sent military plans to the UN which outlined a plan to stop killing in Rwanda - His plan required: the speed and support of the USA, who could support a lot of troops in a short amount of time - US was unenthusiastic - Dallaire felt helpless
How it was resolved - International leader finally spoke up about their dispproval - Only made them change their tactics and not their ultimate goal - Between 500,000 to 1 million casualties from the genocide - Was never fully resolved
