© Imperial College LondonPage 3 First Year Lab Projects Projects are performed in pairs Projects are allocated and partners chosen by ‘lottery’ – see later Project takes 12 3-hour sessions, 2 ‘open days’ at end. Assessment – Continuous assessment by demonstrator, display at open day, project write-up. Weekly (at least) meeting with demonstrator Timetable has less Mon/Tue sessions than Thu/Fri (Bank Holidays). No need to stick to Mon/Tue or Thu/Fri

Mon/Tue, Thu/Fri next week – peruse the projects and decide on some that you like. On week of March 3th - Have another look for late projects. Lottery on Friday March 7. Choose more than 3 or 4 since some are very popular and will get snapped up quickly in the ‘lottery’. Project Open Days- 19, 20 June. Poster sessions for members of department and schools. Project Report- due Monday 23 June.

© Imperial College LondonPage 5 Project Lottery Friday March 7 th 10am LT1. A name is selected at random from the list of participants. That person gets to select a project and a partner. These (lucky) two may leave the lecture theatre (Quietly. Try not to gloat). Their names are removed from the list and another random name is picked. Process repeats until all participating students have partners and projects. Note: If you only pick a few projects they may get snapped up early. You may be left having to choose a project at random. Try to make a long list of projects you would consider and rank them.

Maximum information using concise language/format, summary, why?, how?, Results. Be prepared to explain at both an introductory and detailed level to non-experts. Look at examples from last year.

However, as you are individually assessed, joint reports must have whole sections written by each individual and these must be clearly identified. Scientific report style. Page limit for individual reports is 8 sides, 12 for joint reports. Deadline Monday 23 June is absolute!
