Bangladesh Center for Communication Programs Slide # 2 The “Goal” of the Bangladesh Tobacco Control Research Network is to promote a “culture” that motivates researchers to be involved in tobacco control research The Network was formed in 2013 with the overall purpose of developing a local evidence-based research repository to enhance effective tobacco control policy development and implementation. Bangladesh Center for Communication Programs Slide # 3 In Bangladesh, tobacco control related research had not been a popular topic within the academic community and there was no platform where potential tobacco control researchers could get support and guidance Against this backdrop, BCCP with technical support from the Institute for Global Tobacco Control based at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA took the initiative of establishing the Network. Bangladesh Center for Communication Programs Slide # 16  The Network provides a platform to the researchers to extend support and guidance  The Network has created an enabling environment for tobacco control research in Bangladesh  Different stakeholders including the government are using the research findings generated through the grant program  A couple of studies have been published in the international journals and some are in progress  The Network, with support from BCCP, is on its way to establish itself to sustain the capacity building initiative and co-fund research grant program.
