Siemens Industry I IAPage 5 Project Brief The content of the Industrial Control Competition Is outlined and the Competitors should be competent in the following areas 1.0 Understand the design and operational characteristic of a PLC System and fault find to circuit diagram level. 2.0 Understand PLC information and communication techniques and fault finding to Program Structure level (OB). 3.0 Be able to apply programmable Logic programming techniques (Analogue & Discrete Alarms). 4.0 Understand alterative implementations of programmable control ( PLC Simulation). 5.0 All the actions in a log book over the three day period 6.0 Demonstrate tuning of PID Control System. 7.0 Demonstrate a Mechanical ability Industrial Control Brief UK Skills Industrial Control

Siemens Industry I IAPage 6 Detail The competition has been designed to reflect the role of a Control Systems Engineer and the standards that are expected within the Control Systems Industry. The competitors that meet the required standard will be invited to a Training day and followed by the UK Skills Final. The PLC program will be in ladder format. Siemens Industry I IAPage 8 Competition Rules Competitors are expected to arrive at the competition with their own PC (Laptop), own PPE, Tool kit appropriate to the role of an Control Engineer. All competitors to receive a health and safety briefing at the start of the competition and these rules must be adhered to during the competition. Competitor who arrive late will not normally receive additional time. Competitors will start and finish work as instructed by the judges. During the competition competitors should not disturb other competitors or speak to members of the public. Competitors will not have access to the internet during the competition. Any competitor who wishes to leave the area during the competition must seek the permission of the judges. Competitors will not be allow contact with tutors / coaches during the live competition. Non compliance with this may result in deduction of point. If there is a power stoppage or accident, the competitor must act according to the instruction of the judges. Competitors who break or damage equipment during the competition will not receive any additional time. Where a competitor is observed working in an unsafe manner s/he will be stopped and not permitted to continue unless willing to follow the judges ' direction.
