Course Description Highlights 1 Syllabus: –Semiconductor Materials –Diodes –Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJTs) –Field-Effect Transistors (FETs) Text book: Microelectronics Circuit Analysis and Design By: Donald Neamen, McGraw-Hill, 2009 (4 th Edition)

Course Description Highlights 2 Teaching Method: Lectures mainly using PPT slides Note: The PowerPoint presentations are my talking points, and in no way do they replace the textbook. Grading: –First exam 20% –Second Exam 30% –Final 50%

Answers to FAQ There are no make ups for missed exams under any circumstance. So do not be absent. Exams will be closed notes and books and they will be time-limited. Course material is NOT all from the text book. Focus of exam will be on conceptual understanding, and problem-solving skill.

Answers to FAQ Every student HAS TO attend the class he/she registered in. Please DO NOT ASK for changing classes internally. Attendance is mandatory. If you are absent for 8 classes or more then you will be banned form the final exam. You need to be in class BEFORE I arrive. Once the classroom door is closed, you may NOT enter.

Electronics and Microelectronics Electronics is defined as the science of the motion of charges in a gas, vacuum, or semiconductor. Microelectronics refers to integrated circuit (IC) technology, which can produce a circuit with multimillions of components on a single piece of semiconductor material.

PASSIVE AND ACTIVE DEVICES Passive electrical device: the time average power delivered to the device over an infinite time period is always greater than or equal to zero. Active devices: are capable of supplying particular types of power. Transistors are also considered to be active devices in that they are capable of supplying more signal power to a load than they receive
