 OSH excellence underpins business excellence.  Operations that involve risk produce injuries, illnesses and environmental events harmful to people and costly to business.  Assessing/managing risk leads to safer, more environmentally sound processes, while reducing costs. Why the Need to Identify & Manage Risk?

 Risk Assessment is foundation for risk management and risk reduction  Traditional Approaches incident rates, compliance are after-the-fact approaches  Business Leaders are focusing on risk management in managing organization risk  Promote OSH professional has expert in managing risk to add creditability and value Why is this important to you?

 Fatal/serious injury rates have remained steady or slowed  Traditional approaches to improving SH&E performance focused primarily on injury rate reduction and/or regulatory compliance  Traditional approach used alone force an after-the-fact perspective, limits the SH&E professionals ability to advance his or her mission.  Transformation from injury prevention to risk control.  Other countries (UK and EU) have one-half the fatality rate of the U.S.A.
