WARM UP What is the universe? What is a galaxy? What is a solar system? http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/solar-system/universe.htm

Earth’s Rotation Cause Earth spins on a tilted imaginary line called an axis. Earth spinning on its axis is called rotation.

Effect One rotation takes 24 hours This makes one day and night cycle. The Sun rises in the East first.

Earth’s Revolution Cause Earth orbits or revolves around the Sun. Earth moves in a regular path around the Sun The Sun’s gravity keeps all of the planets in orbit around it.

Effect One revolution = about 365 ¼ days = one year This produces winter, spring, summer, and fall as we go around the sun. Summer occurs in the Northern Hemisphere when we are tilted towards the sun. Winter occurs in the Northern Hemisphere when we are tilted away from the sun.

Rotation and Revolution Lab Follow all directions. You will be creating your own group set up with the items provided. Complete and clean up!
