SOIL TESTING PROGRAMME Soil Testing services are provided free of cost to the farmers of the State. ADO’s are given targets for collection of soil samples before sowing of Rabi and Kharif Crops. The samples are sent to the concerned laboratory for analysis. Analysis reports with fertilizer recommendations are sent to the extension workers for follow up action. Special soil testing campaigns are launched to collect representative samples. District wise Digital Fertility maps are prepared and sent to DDAs. Water samples are also analyzed in the laboratories for assessing its quality. Targeted 3.55 lakh Soil Health Cards to be provided to the Farmers annually.

SOIL AND WATER TESTING SERVICE Present Set up:- - 34 Soil & Water Testing Laboratories in the State - 3 Mobile Soil testing Laboratories. - 22 STLs are equipped for Micronutrient testing. Soil Parameters being Analysed :- - pH & EC to check the alkalinity & Salinity in soils for reclamation - Major nutrient - N: P : K - Secondary Nutrient-Sulphur - Micronutrients (Zn, Fe, Mn and Cu) Capacity :- - 10,000 soil sample a year of each Laboratory - Total of 3.55 lac soil samples by all the STLs - 2.50 soil samples for micronutrients (Zn, Fe and Mn)

Preparation of Soil Fertility Map district wise-Nutrient wise District wise soil fertility maps depicting village level information are available. GIS maps of all nutrients (major & micro) are prepared based on GP location. The maps are provided to the all DDAs and uploaded on the Web also. Village wise as well as farmers Data are also available on the WEB. 19.10 lakh Soil Health Cards have been distributed up to March, 2014

MEASURES TAKEN TO IMPROVE SOIL HEALTH Promotion of Green Manuring. Promotion of Summer Moong. Banning the cultivation of summer Paddy by enacting Legislation. Management of Crop Residues (Use of Rotavator, Zero Till Machine, Happy Seeder etc.) Reclamation of Saline and Waterlogged Soils by laying Sub Surface Drainage system. Balanced use of fertilizers as per recommendations. Promotion of Bio fertilizers and Single Super Phosphate fertilizer. Identified critical villages for all the micronutrients. Subsidy @ 75% on micronutrients (Zn, Fe & Mn) are provided to the farmers. Demonstrations are being laid under the NPMSHF and ATMA schemes. Gypsum is being provided to reclaim Alkali Soils as well as to mitigate sulphur deficiency at 50% subsidized rate.

IMPROVEMENT IN SOIL HEALTH CARD Area and crop specific recommendation of fertilizers. Inclusion of Copper, Boron and Molybdenum. Categorization of Sulphur and Micronutrients with Low, Medium and High Categories as per recommendation of IISS, Bhopal.
