Overview of session  Role and remit of the RDS  Services offered by the RDS including:  Patient and Public Involvement in Research Design

The Research Design Service  Funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)  Provides a free consultancy service to support clinicians, academics and service users develop strong proposals to attract funding for applied health and social care research.

RDS remit We offer free  advice on developing research proposals for NIHR funding programmes, or other national peer reviewed competitions We do not  support proposals where there is no intention of submitting an application for peer review to a recognised funding stream

The research innovation pathway

Process  Complete client enquiry form on website  Allocated lead adviser  Work with you/team to identify and address specific requirements: face-to-face; telephone;  Involve other advisers as necessary

Regional support  NIHR two-day workshops for novice bidders (£50)  Provides an outline of the particular characteristics and remits of NIHR bids and an overview of what is involved in applying  One-day bid development workshops  Have a completed draft proposal  Morning – presentation  general feedback  Afternoon – specific feedback from teams of experts  Pre-submission panel  Have a completed proposal close to submission  Not required to attend  Proposal reviewed by ‘mock committee’ – feedback provided
