Northern England Strategic Clinical Network Conference 15 th May 2015 Haemosys System David Bottoms Diagnostic Project Manager

What is the Haemosys System ? A central information repository for the region’s Leukaemia and Lymphoma patients IT system hosted by Newcastle, commercially supported and developed Linked to all regional FTs and their LIMS systems A web-system so accessible from Leeds Cancer Registry

Why was it required ? NICE’s ‘Improving Outcomes in Haematological Cancers (IOG)’ published in National Peer Review Standards for Haematological Cancers (sections 1C-120 to 1C-12). Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Services (SIHMDS) should cover a catchment population of at least 2 million Consistency and accuracy of diagnosis Single integrated report (marrows, flow cell analysis, genetics) No duplications Integrated Diagnostic Pathways Provision of WHO/ ICD codes Provide Clinical Audit/ Key Performance Indicators (ie TRTs)

Progress Report – May 2015 Haemosys System installed into Newcastle and linked to all FTs System configured/ tested/ developed/ diagnostic pathways agreed Staff training at Newcastle, S Tees and Nbria System Live – Newcastle cases since Jan, all regional cases since April – over 300 cases now in system Interfaced to LIMS at Newcastle/ S Tees Interface testing in process at Co Durham, Gateshead, Nbria, N Cumbria Links with NYCRIS in process

This is it !

Benefits All Trusts are now receiving single integrated reports All reporting now meets IOG guidance Attachments/ images can be stored with the cases Clinical Audit Trials have commenced Direct analysis by NYCRIS will be available shortly Improved audit trails/ specimen tracking Quality improvements / standardisation of reporting Links with Biobanking/ Clinical Trials

Lessons learnt/ Issues LIMS Interface testing has been time consuming Integration with remote FT sample taking processes has taken time to plan/ engineer Overall it is a time-saver
