History  Animals have been tested on since the 19 th century for the study of science and human and veterinary medicine.  Also used in education, training, cosmetics and household products

Animal Welfare Act 1999  Strictly controls use of animals in research, testing and teaching.  Every request for animal use must be approved and monitored by an animal ethics committee.  al-welfare/research al-welfare/research
