Exercise and Holism Being Healthy and the Mind-Body Bridge

Being "fit" means different things to different people. Not everyone wants to be an Olympic athlete. High level fitness requires aerobic activity for minutes 3-5 times per week, along with strength training for minutes 2-3 times per week. This group of exercise requires intense dedication and commitment, but is necessary if you love to play sports and want to reduce the risk of injury.

> Moderate fitness activities are less demanding and a gentler approach which are just as beneficial to longevity as the more intense version of exercise. Moderate levels of activity are less time consuming as you can fit it into your daily life. Here are some suggestions to accumulate 30 minutes of moderate activity per day.

If then asdfdfdasssss Park in the back of the parking lot. It will only take a few minutes extra to walk that distance, but it counts. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. It will build cardiovascular strength as well as tone the leg muscles. Stretching daily may be the most important thing you do for your health. It reduces stress, tones muscles, makes you more flexible and in touch with your body and mind, and doesn't have to be done all at once. Just take 30 to 60 seconds to stretch every hour. It will increase your power of concentration and reduce sluggishness. Try incorporating a walk into your lunch time. Bring a nutritious lunch so you won't be tempted to buy fast food and, save time waiting for service. If you walk for just 15 minutes, you'll feel better in the afternoon, guaranteed

Holism understands that stress on the body can be a direct result of mental and spiritual imbalances as well as nutritional or chemical deficiencies. Much suffering could be prevented or alleviated using more holistic principles on exercise.

Physical Benefits of Regular Exercise (according to the U.S. Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health) Increases overall energy and stamina Increases muscle and cardio respiratory strength Increases flexibility and mobility Maintains ideal body weight and composition (fat to muscle ratio) Improves metabolic functioning and your ability to burn fat as fuel Shortens post-natal recovery time and post-operative recovery time Increases oxygen carrying capacity to the brain resulting in being more alert and focused Improves mood and reduces depression Lowers risk of cancer and osteoporosis Reduces blood pressure Reduces insomnia and promotes more restorative sleep
