Block Schedule  Students take 4 core classes per year: Language Arts, Math, with Science & Language Arts, Math, with Science & Social Studies (on A/B day rotation) Social Studies (on A/B day rotation)

Elective Options  Students take 2 semesters of electives per year on an A/B day rotation  Band or Orchestra (year long)  Exploring Foreign Language (Spanish)  Career and Technical Education  Cultural Arts (Art, Dance, and Drama)  Journalism * PE / Health is required by the state of North Carolina

A Sample Day in the Life of a 6 th Grader  Homeroom (7:45-8:10)  1 st block: Language Arts  Recharge  2 nd block: Math  3 rd block: Lunch,  Social Studies (A day)  Science (B day)  4 th block: Electives  PE (A Day)  Cultural Arts (B Day)  Dismissal begins at 3:15 PM

Serving Our Gifted Students Our school practices inclusion Gifted students are grouped within the core classrooms Our Academic Facilitator works with the core teachers to push, stretch, and extend the curriculum for our gifted students

Serving our EC Students  We use a co-teaching model to serve some of our students in the Exceptional Children’s program  We have 2 self-contained autistic class and 1 self-contained Specialized Academic Curriculum (SAC) class  Buddy Program – students should listen to announcements for application period

Parent Information  Grades are found on the Parent Portal - Teachers have 10 days to enter grades following an assignment’s due date - Teachers have 10 days to enter grades following an assignment’s due date  Tutoring: All teachers offer at least one session per week  Contacts:  Teachers are the first point of contact for questions or concerns  Grade level administrators and counselors are the second point of contact

Preparing for Middle School  Check out our website, Facebook page, and the teachers’ wiki pages  Learn to be self-advocators  Get in the habit of having your student pull up PowerSchool once a week and show you their progress  Teach them how to send an to their teacher if they have questions/concerns  Summer Reading Project, Practice Multiplication Facts, work on organization, practice using planner

Summer Reading Assignment  Students are getting information about this tonight!  Read 1 of 2 books with written component  Details will be posted on our website in June

Parent Teacher Association  They do GREAT work for our students and staff!  We encourage you to join!  Two big events during the year:  Rocktoberfest  Rec for Tech
