Our state and federal governments serve citizens in many ways. State and federal governments are both made up of three branches--executive, legislative, and judicial. Learn More (p.210) In the federal government, in Washington D.C., the legislative branch is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives. These groups meet in the U.S. Capitol. In California’s state government, the legislative branch is made up of the state senate and the state assembly. They meet in the capitol building in Sacramento.
