Status of Globus activities within INFN (update) Massimo Sgaravatto INFN Padova for the INFN Globus group INFN-GRID/Globus

Globus activities within INFN WP “Installation and Evaluation of the Globus Toolkit” of the INFN-GRID Project Goal: evaluate the Globus toolkit as a GRID framework providing basic services Which services can be useful ? What is necessary to integrate/modify ? What is missing ? Duration: 6 months Results of this first evaluation used to plan future activities

Tasks Globus deployment Security Information Service Resource Manager Data Access and Migration Fault Monitoring Execution Environment Management

Globus deployment (see Flavia’s presentation) Goal: reduce complexity and manpower for Globus deployment and maintenance Already done: Modified Globus software kits (including bug fixes) available on AFS INFN specific installation instructions for Globus Supported OS: Linux and Solaris Configuration instructions for GIS LSF and Condor (and PBS) as local resource manager systems Italian Certification Authority Script for post-install operations To do: Tools to enable local administrators to quasi-automatically install and deploy Globus

Security (GSI) Already done: Evaluation of the Globus security architecture INFN certification authority able to issue Globus certificates Modified script to generate certificate requests To do: Definition and implementation of CAs architecture Management of groups of users I.e.: a certain Globus resource must be available to all members of a specific physics group

Information Service (GIS) Already done: INFN MDS server serving Globus and installations Definition and on-going implementation of test architecture of GIS (for Globus 1.1.3) Web interface for browsing Preliminary activities on integrating the default schema with other info (file system) To do: Tests on performance and scalability Definition and implementation of the GIS architecture Other tools and interfaces for Grid users and administrators Integration of the default schema with other info Which info are necessary ???

Dc=bo, Dc=infn, dc=it,o=grid Bologna GIIS INFN CMS GIIS GIIS Dc=mi,Dc=infn, dc=it,o=grid Exp=cms, o=grid Top Level INFN GIIS Dc=infn,dc=it, o=grid Milano INFN GIS Architecture (test phase)

Resource Management (GRAM) Already done: Tests with Condor, LSF and PBS as underlying resource management systems Evaluation of RSL as uniform language to specify resources “Cooperation” between GRAM and GIS Submission of Condor jobs to Globus resources (Condor-G and GlideIn mechanisms) To do: Complete on-going tests Tests with real applications Solve the problems Serious problems with scalability and robustness

Other tasks Preliminary tests with Globus tools for data access and migration Evaluation of HBM for fault detection … but the HBM package is not seeing active development Evaluation of GEM as service for code migration … but the GEM service now provides only very limited capabilities (executable staging) Preliminary tests with GARA Network and CPU advance reservation
