Misusing the internet affects children in a negative way By:Vera, Zia, Rishi & Sameer

What do we mean by the misuse of the internet? The internet is a big technological development and has been extremely convenient for mankind. Although when it gets into the hands of children they start to misuse it.

Why we are posting this Presentation? We are doing this presentation because we know that many children in our school misuse the internet. We want to make sure that children stay safe whilst they are using the internet.

The harm the internet can cause Addiction Addiction is when you are addicted to something. For example using the computer for more than half a day. Addiction can cause poor eyesight and hearing, neck pain, back pain, depression anger and irritation (when not engaged), lack of social skills, developmental issues Carpal tunnel syndrome and Migraines headaches and poor personal hygiene (don't have the urge to move away form your computer and attend daily tasks). Crime Crime is when cybercriminals try to use your personal information and use it against you. For example, when cybercriminals find out about your bank details they can get money from your bank without you noticing. Cyber Bullying Cyberbullying is when you get mean messages online eg, people teasing you, People spreading rumors about you, people calling you mean words or names that you don’t like, threatening you. This causes depression and make you lose your self esteem.

Why children misuse the Internet? ●Children don't know the consequences When Children don't know the misuses of the internet they think the internet is a toy. Then they create accounts on social websites, watch inappropriate videos etc. This causes them to suffer the consequences. ●Parents don’t know what children are doing Sometimes parents don't know what their children are doing. When parents don't know what their children are doing they can't advise children how to stay safe online and what you should do online. ●They give away their personal information online In trying to contact others, children give away their personal information online. This makes cybercriminals use that information against you

Using the internet safely ●Password You should have a safe password and people say if you have a phrase it is much safer. Never tell anyone your password (except for your parents). ●Age Appropriate Your age should should be appropriate for all apps for example facebook, instagram, gmail etc. ●Check with parents Check with parents if you are feeling uncomfortable for something or before you download any app.

●Online Friends You should not be friends with people you don’t know 100% because they can try to be friends and find out all your personal information and try to make you feel uncomfortable or cyber bully you. ●Identity You should not give anyone your personal information like your number, address etc. ●Time Limit You should have a time limit for using the internet you should only use the internet for only 1-2 hours per day. ●Be a good citizen In order to stay safe online, you should not be rude and cyber bully others.
