EDGE™ Mission Statement …to develop a system around the LightGage sensors that would allow for both sides of an object to be measured automatically and simultaneously. In order to achieve this, two LG sensors will be aimed at one another. Again, a maximum part diameter of 40mm will be used for the dual-headed system. The team will need to develop a fixture capable of supporting the two heads as well as the part being measured, to the tolerances and specifications agreed upon. Areas of focus include materials research and selection, thermal and structural analysis, and aiding in part/motor selection. Technical drawing packages, computer models, and bill of materials will need to be generated. Students will also aid in system integration and manufacturing documentation. Those interested in materials, fabrication, and vibrations analysis may find this project appealing, as environmental isolation and material selection is critical to the success of this project. An eye for detail will also be valuable to this project. Other tasks include system verification, debug, and electrical system documentation.
