Photo Rosters At Mike Weaver Bucknell

Primary motivation for Photo Rosters: Helping faculty to learn names and faces of their students!

( Online Directory )

vs. “Private” pictures “Public” pictures

And now … …to the Photo Rosters in Blackboard …

Photo Rosters have been wildly popular with faculty! They use it as a mechanism to

I’ve heard countless anecdotes about how they used to cut up the printed directory to create their own photo roster. Faculty who have never used Blackboard are now getting into Blackboard to access the photo rosters!

Features, Conditions & Caveats Photo Rosters are available for all courses and organizations in Blackboard. All Bucknell courses are automatically created in Blackboard, and students are automatically enrolled.

Features, Conditions & Caveats, cont. The photo roster is only available to the instructor/manager of the Blackboard course/organization. If the person generating the roster is faculty or staff, it will include “private” pictures. Otherwise, it will only include public pictures. For example, a student who is president of a fraternity can generate a photo roster of his fraternity that will include all public pictures but no private pictures.

Features, Conditions & Caveats, cont. Photo Rosters are only available in the campus intranet.

Technical Challenges (for me) My first Building Block in Blackboard. Pictures (JPEGs) need to be displayed as part of the photo roster, but can’t be independently accessible to the web server.
