Satellites By: Manny, Jorge, Ingrid, and Sean

Background On Satellites  There are about 24 satellites in space  Owned by different countries  They are very useful in many forms  At least two are needed to pinpoint a person.  GPS stands for Global Positioning System  GIS stands for Geographical Information System  Orbits earth

Benefits of Satellites  They are good because they help us find places.  They are also good because if someone is lost they can find them.  They also help track down people for military purpose.  They are used for public purposes.

Remote Sensing  Remote Sensing:  Process of:  Acquiring information on an object from large or short scales.  Done by:  spacecraft, aircraft, and satellites.  Remote sensing is beneficial because it is an affective way to gain information on what something looks like and how far it is.The benefits include the possibility of collecting information from dangerous or inaccessible areas.

GPS Background  It is used for navigation worldwide and map-making  It works as long as signal is accessible  Who uses it?  Most commonly found in cars

Garmin GPS  PGS 60CSx  High-sensitivity  Electronic compass  Barometric altimeter  Large, color TFT display  Built-in Americas autoroute basemap

GIS  GIS is a database that stores images of layers of the earth.  GIS works with GPS to make a higher quality of picture.  Is used to find the elevation of places through maps.

Jorge’s Tracks  On Berkeley Campus.  The Initials of my name.  A pretty difficult task because you have to do it very slowly and it was a hot day.

Manny’s Tracks  I intended to make a giant M but it was upside down and it was only half.  We decided to edit it and add a piece to make it look like a V and it came out to be a good V.

Ingrid’s Tracks  I made my initials which are I and V and attempted to make a heart.  I believe the heart came out nice because it we had to walk slow to make the points accurate.

Sean’s Tracks  The letter S, represents me as Sean Chatmon, or “super man”.  Super man is my favorite super hero, so the letter S symbolizes me and super man.

Conclusion  Satellites are very helpful an useful.  They are good to track down people and also good for military purposes.  Satellites have many purposes and they have become to great use for human kind.
