About the Windows Mobility Center The Windows Mobility Center is a central location that allows you to control Mobile PC features in Windows Vista. Control power settings, wireless networks, device syncing, presentation settings, and more. Topics in this Guide: Note To open the Mobility Center, click the Start button ( ), click Control Panel, click Mobile PC, and then click Windows Mobility Center. Set Up for a Presentation Within Windows Vista you can create and save custom settings such as volume and desktop wallpaper that you use during a presentation. Once you establish your presentation settings, you no longer need to change them before each presentation. Click the Start button ( ), click Control Panel, click Mobile PC, and then click Windows Mobility Center. 1 In the Windows Mobility Center dialog box, in the Presentation Settings tile, click the presentations settings icon. 2

All rights reserved. 3 In the Presentation Settings dialog box, under When I am giving a presentation, select the options you prefer, and then click OK. Note If you are currently giving a presentation, select I am currently giving a presentation to activate the presentation settings. Enter Text Using the Tablet PC Input Panel Enter text on the Input Panel using the Writing Pad, Character Pad, or the On-Screen Keyboard. To open the Input Panel, tap the Input Panel on the left side of your Tablet PC display. Select your preferred method of entering text from the options on the left side of the user interface. When entering text in the Writing Pad, write above the horizontal line. You don’t need to worry about spacing or letter placement. The recognized text is shown beneath the horizontal line. When entering text with the Character Pad, you must write between the dividers on the horizontal line. Leave one blank space between words. Handwriting recognition occurs as you write. Using handwriting recognition, the input panel provides the most likely match to handwritten text. The input panel also offers the ability to make quick corrections as you go. As shown below, alternatives to the recognized text appear. Handwriting Recognition for the Tablet PC Train your Tablet PC to recognize your handwriting more accurately and correct specific handwriting recognition errors. On the left side of your Tablet PC display, tap the Tablet PC Input Panel. 1

On the Tools menu, tap Personalize Handwriting Recognition. On the Personalize handwriting recognition page, to work on handwriting recognition errors, tap Teach the recognizer your handwriting style. On the Teach the recognizer your handwriting style page, tap Sentences if you want to train your Tablet PC by writing sentences or tap Numbers, symbols, and letters if you want to train your Tablet PC by writing numbers, symbols, and letters Complete the sentences or numbers, symbols, and letters recognition, tap Save, and then tap Update and Exit. 5 Note To work on specific handwriting errors, on the Personalize handwriting recognition page, tap Target specific recognition errors. Navigate with a Digital Pen Navigating with a digital pen is much like navigating with a mouse. Most of the actions performed with a mouse have a digital pen equivalent. Use Tablet PC Pen Flicks Pen flicks make browsing the Internet or performing editing actions easier and convenient. With a quick movement (flick) of your pen on the Tablet PC screen, you can activate a pen flick action. In addition to preset pen flick actions, you can create a custom action and assign it to a pen flick direction. Navigational Flicks (Default Pen Flick Setting)

Navigational flicks and editing flicks In the lower-right of your Tablet PC display, in the notification area, tap the Pen flicks icon. In the Pen flicks window, tap Customize your pen flicks settings. 1 2 In the Pen and Input Devices dialog box, on the Flicks tab, tap Navigational flicks and editing flicks, and then tap Customize. 3 In the Customize Flicks dialog box, next to the flick direction, select a new flick action from the list, and then click OK. In the Pen and Input Devices dialog box click OK. 4 Note To add a new flick action not in the list, in the flick action list, tap (add). Under Add a custom flick action, in the Name box, type the name of the new flick action. In the Keys box, press a key or key combination of the action. Configure Tablet PC Settings Calibrate your digital pen to correctly match up with the cursor on your display and configure your Tablet PC to work better with the hand you write with, referred to as “handedness.” Select Handedness Selecting which hand you write with increases the accuracy of the handwriting recognition software on your Tablet PC. Tap the Start button ( ), tap Control Panel, tap Hardware and Sound, and then tap Tablet PC Settings. 1

All rights reserved. 2 In the Tablet PC Settings dialog box, on the General tab, tap Right-handed or Left- handed, tap OK, and then close the Control Panel. Note Handwriting recognition is also more accurate if you hold the pen naturally, rest your hand on the screen, and write as you normally would. Calibrate Digital Pen If the digital pen is not matching up with the cursor movements on the display, you can calibrate the digital pen. Always calibrate for both landscape and portrait page orientations. Tap the Start button ( ), tap Control Panel, tap Mobile PC, and then tap Tablet PC Settings. In the Tablet PC Settings dialog box, on the General tab, in the Orientation list, tap the orientation that you prefer to calibrate. Tap Calibrate and follow the instructions. In the Tablet PC Settings dialog box, tap OK, and then close the Control Panel Configure Digital Pen Settings Tap the Start button ( ), tap Control Panel, tap Hardware and Sound, and then tap Pen and Input Devices. 1 In the Pen and Input Devices dialog box, on the Pen Options tab, under Pen actions, tap the pen action that you want to adjust, and then tap Settings. In the settings dialog box, make the desired settings, and then click OK. In the Pen and Input Devices dialog box, click OK. 2 3 Notes Your Tablet PC pen may include a button on the side. The default action for this button is right-click. Push the button, and then tap the screen to get a right-click shortcut menu. Your Tablet PC pen may include an “eraser” on the end opposite to the pointer. To use the eraser, touch the eraser to your Tablet PC screen (this icon appears ) and then press to erase ink (this icon appears ). Improve Mobile PC Performance with ReadyBoost ReadyBoost is a feature in Windows Vista that improves computer performance by accelerating hard drive performance. To use ReadyBoost, you need to connect a USB flash drive or Secure Digital (SD) memory card to your computer.
