Agenda M-Reports Vision Internal Controls – Employment Content M-Reports Security Approach Sponsored Research Content 2

M-Reports Vision M-Reports provides an accessible and easy to use reporting method that University executive officers, deans, directors, chairs, faculty, managers, and administrators can use to view and analyze management data. 3 Application Specific Reporting (e.g. PeopleSoft) M-Reports Business Objects Reporting Operational (~5,000 Users) Power Reporting (~3,000 Users) Leadership, Faculty & Managers (~10,000 Users)

M-Reports Vision M-Reports enhances a unit’s business intelligence by delivering management reports in a customizable user interface. This system will provide: Guided analysis on specific reporting topics with links that drill-down to associated detail. Alerts, metrics, and personalized reports based on individual user ‘s profile, preferences, and role-based security. Report data sourced from the appropriate database (e.g., M-Pathways Production and ODS, UM Data Warehouse, unit systems). Content developed and published by MAIS CPUs and University units. An intuitive interface that requires no training. 4

Why Use M-Reports Today? Internal Control Reports - Employment Approximately 80% of University expenditures are salary and benefit related. M-Reports provides “at a glance” and guided analysis of operational, strategic, financial, and compliance data for your unit(s). This information can help financial certifiers to: Identify employment trends and exceptions. Compare actuals to expectations. Minimize risks. Enable data-driven decisions (i.e., business intelligence). 5

6 Why Use M-Reports Today? Internal Control Reports - Employment M-Reports displays the Internal Controls – Employment reports in a customizable interface that allows financial certifiers to: Easily view and analyze faculty, staff, and temporary pay. Identify appropriate supplemental pay (e.g., overtime). Compare compensation data by percentage or dollar amount for multiple Fiscal Years. Certify that compensation and supplemental pay amounts are reasonable for your unit(s). Certify that employment controls are appropriate for your unit(s).

Internal Controls – Employment Reports 7 Criteria Bar allows you to set, modify, and save report parameters. High Level Metrics provide quick information. Click a link to drill down to detail information. Select a time period to display data in the Graphical View.

Internal Controls – Employment Reports The Criteria Bar identifies the data displayed in the reports. Available from the My M-REPORTS tab and in the reports. Add, edit, save, and delete report criteria as appropriate. Click the magnifying glass icon to display a list of values from which to select for that parameter. 8

M-Reports Security Approach M-Reports access granted automatically based on user’s attributes. For example, M-Pathways role Jobcode Departmental security may apply to M-Reports content. Internal Controls – Employment: Dept. security based on the user’s primary appointing department and the department group roll-up. Currently roll-up based on the UM_ORG_GROUP tree. In the future, roll-up will be based on the UM_DEPT_REPTG tree. Changes to a user’s primary appointing department automatically removes M-Reports Internal Controls – Employment access. Research: No Dept. security Request additions/exceptions to a user’s default access with an online access request in OARS. Requests to reinstate access must be done through OARS. 9
