Intro Overview of Sensemaking – What is Sensemaking - aaron – Problems With Sensemaking System - jason Overview of Project – Goals - jeff – Things that didn’t come to be - aaron – Structure - alex – Demo – alex Conclusions – jason Questions

Overview of SenseMaking

Making sense of what was and what is going to be – Individual and organizational – Military – Situation assessment – Computers Organizational, cultural, social, and personal random factors Using these factors to decide on conclusions about different situations

Problems with Sensemaking Awareness – What is relevant to the situation? – Maintaining situational awareness Understanding – Forming hypotheses with given information Decisions – Identifying desirability of different decisions – Creating decisions out of vague and often dissimilar pieces of information

Overview of Project

Goals Primarily exploratory – Limited information on the subject – More focus on learning than practical application

Goals Explore different methods of sensemaking Analyze and reasonably extrapolate based upon patterned data sets – Something moderately useful Predict the stock market’s every turn – Lots of $$$

Things that didn’t come to be Distinctive situations based on more than numeric information An evaluation of real people to help determine the numerical data

Structure Evaluator – Pattern Finder – High Low Evaluator Predictor – Linear – Quadratic

Demo

Conclusions

Improvements/Other Implementations Implement a sense making structure in multiple fields Have a system use sensemaking to prevent undesirable situations in addition to predicting these situations Have a system use sensemaking to resolve issues that do come up (that it didn’t predict) based on what people would normally do by observed/gathered information on the subject
