Good Things are Happening in Durham 3 Overview and History The RBA framework challenges us to answer two key questions: –How do we measure and communicate progress in areas of concern to our community? –What are we doing to make positive changes around key areas of concern in our community? The main components of the RBA initiative include: –Supporting effective community-based outcome committees –Tracking community level quality of life indicators

Good Things are Happening in Durham 8 Lessons Learned “Indicators can put issues on the public agenda, but they don’t produce change in and of themselves. Determined citizens produce change—through years of hard political work. Indicators reports themselves are not strategic plans for action. But they can be an effective information resource for such plans, particularly when the indicators process is carried out in such a way as to foster political will.” -- Community Indicators Case Study Jacksonville, Florida

Good Things are Happening in Durham 9 Lessons Learned 1.Effective collaborations are necessary to create positive change in our community. 2.We must be able to engaging the broader community. 3.Building mutually beneficial relationships among stakeholders takes time and effort. 4.Re-creating the wheel is not necessary.
