Restoring Your Life Through Worship in Teaching Acts 2:42

Remember What Worship Is? The main Hebrew word: Shacah – to bow down in obedient reverence The main Greek word: Proskuneo – to bow down and kiss the hand of The Old English: Derived from the word worth-ship. Meaning to denote worthiness to the one receiving the honor or devotion.

Remember God’s Word on Authority One God and one guide. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) Authority is vital: “not beyond the things that are written.” (1 Corinthians 4:6) Abide in the doctrine of Christ. (2 John 9) Spirit and truth (John 4:24) Do not transgress. (1 John 3:4)

What is Teaching? The true teacher defends his pupils against his own personal influence. (A. Bronson Alcott) Teaching Defined: It is the art of providing information to one person or a group of people. It is the proclamation of spiritual truths from God’s word to a person or group of people allowing (causing) each individual to reflect upon his/her life and working to grow closer to God.

Teaching Throughout the Bible “… they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.” The Old Testament: The command to parents. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) The command to grandparents. (Deuteronomy 4:9) The life of the prophets. (2 Chronicles 36:15) Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…”

Teaching Throughout the Bible “… they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.” The New Testament: The ministry of John the Baptist. (Matthew 11:9-10) The ministry of Christ. The Places of Teaching “… they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.” Where did the church teach the word? The Temple (Acts 2:46; 3:1-16; 5:42)The Temple (Acts 2:46; 3:1-16; 5:42) The Synagogue (Luke 4:16-21; John 18:20; Acts 13:15ff)The Synagogue (Luke 4:16-21; John 18:20; Acts 13:15ff) House to House (Acts 2:46; Acts 5:42; Romans 16:5; Philemon 2; 1 Corinthians 16:19)House to House (Acts 2:46; Acts 5:42; Romans 16:5; Philemon 2; 1 Corinthians 16:19)

What Should be Taught? The doctrine of man vs. the truth of God “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me: In vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” (Matthew 15:8-9, ESV)

Are You Concerned with Teaching? Teach me to do your will, for you are my God (Psalms 143:10, ESV) Personal Questions: Did Christ die for you to sit in a building?Did Christ die for you to sit in a building? Did Christ die for you to continue in the steps of the great teachers before us?Did Christ die for you to continue in the steps of the great teachers before us? When you teach are you simply paying “lip-service” to God?When you teach are you simply paying “lip-service” to God?
