2 What We’ll Cover Today A quick preview of the new directory. Changes in modifying your entry, privacy options, and minimum public information about you. Simplified group creation and management. How people get into and out of MCommunity. LDAP access to MCommunity. What do you need to make the transition go smoothly?

3 The MCommunity Directory Will Be available via the web. Have privacy options and data-management rules that are different from those in the U-M Online Directory. Eventually replace the U-M Online Directory. Be LDAP-accessible via an MCommunity LDAP Tree.

4 Searching for People Searching the MCommunity Directory will be much like searching the U-M Online Directory. Only those currently affiliated with U-M will be in the directory. (The U-M Online Directory includes people with former affiliations.) All those currently affiliated will have entries, including all living alumni.

8 Your Entry: What You Can Change Where M-Pathways (Wolverine Access) Dearborn Banner System Flint Banner System Development Alumni Constituent (DAC) MCommunity Sponsor System In the MCommunity Directory, you will not be able to change information that comes from an official U-M source. You'll need to change it at the source. The Prevent Batch Updates option will no longer be available.

10 Some Changes in Privacy Options Your home address will be hidden unless you publish it (the opposite of the U-M Online Directory). You can choose to make contact information you enter visible to everyone or just to logged-in users. Employees can’t hide work-related contact information. The Private option will no longer be available.

11 Minimum Public Info for Students Name(s) Uniqname address Title (“Student”) Affiliation (school/college name) Campus

12 Student Privacy Options FERPA Submit a Non-Disclosure of Information request to the Registrar’s Office to have all directory information except for uniqname withheld.

14 Faculty/Staff Privacy Options Use general departmental address and phone. Request this from your department’s HR representative. Personal safety request. You can request that all information except uniqname be withheld from the directory. Work with your department’s HR representative to do this. Request must be approved by the Director of HR.

17 How People Get Into MCommunity Students. When they matriculate. Faculty/Staff. During the hiring process. Sponsored people. When a department sponsors them. Alumni. From data supplied by the Office of University Development.

18 How People Get Out of MCommunity Students. Remain in by transitioning to alumni. Faculty/Staff. Removed, after a grace period, when appointment is terminated. Retirees and emeritus faculty remain in the directory until their death. Sponsored people. Removed when all sponsorships expire. Alumni. At death.

19 LDAP Access MCommunity uses Novell eDir software and is not LDAP-accessible. Access will be provided via an MCommunity LDAP Tree, a replica of the actual directory. Schema will be mostly the same as for the U-M Online Directory.

What do you need from the MCommunity Team to make the transition from the U-M Online Directory to the MCommunity Directory go well?
