Why are birds different from other animals?

What is our objective? ~ To teach kids about different kinds of birds ~ To have the kids learn some interesting facts and characteristics of birds ~To have them understand why birds are different from other kinds of animals

How will we do this? ~ The teacher will use a power point that shows why birds are different, and that has 6-10 different birds with their facts! ~ After the teacher is finished with the power point he/she will hand out the worksheet on the birds for the kids to answer!

Is it because they have eggs? NO! Fish have eggs too!

Could it be that they have beaks or bill? No! A turtle has a beak! A platypus has a bill!

Do You Know What It Could Be?!?

FEATHERS! Feathers allow a bird to fly!

Hummingbird Robin The Ruby Throated Hummingbird has a long beak to suck pollen and ruby colored feathers on its throat. They also are the most common hummingbird! Robin’s lay blue eggs. The male robin has a red chest, and the female robin has a speckled chest. They also have short beaks.

Mockingbird Blue Jay The mockingbird sings many different melodies. It is common for them to know 20-30 different songs. They are also very protective on their nests and environment! The Blue Jay can adapt to most any surrounding. They eat nuts, seeds, and some insects. They are also known for destroying other birds nests and eating their eggs.

Penguins Flamingo After the mother lays the egg, the father comes and sits on it for four months. While doing this the male penguin loses half of it’s body weight! Flamingos like to stand on one leg. This is their most comfortable position. They also like to keep themselves clean using their long necks!
