Notes on the Personalised E-Health Workshop

Issues  How will privacy be handled – do we keep information based on role/episode, and not identified?  There is a strong need for tailored delivery – yet the cost of generation & maintenance is enormous – what can we do to help?  By describing the many possible models we might be just making the problem worse! Where is the trade-off?  How are models captured? We have seen phone, doctor entered, patient web forms, derived from web- logs, etc.  There is clearly no single user model, nor a single user type – the EHR is not the answer for personal care – how do we respond?

More Issues  Evaluation when tailoring user models for healthcare - use the patient record, or a lot less?  Negative aspects of personalisation, e.g., potential loss in consistency, trust, coherence, cost  The relationship between health service/professional practice and CS/AI research.

Discussion  There are a team involved – each needs different but consistent information  There is a role for training here – we have a path to walk in our care  What is the difference between institutional care and community care?  Healthcare may be a dialogue – can we help here? Machines are good at keeping track, but bad at empathy – machines might be good a info delivery – builds in redundancy?? Machines are possibly good at telepsychiatry.

What next?  Matchmaking UM and eHealth researchers?  Shared list – to Alison  Workshop in Dublin at AH?  Workshop at e-Health conf.?  Information therapy?  Workshop at Medinfo at in Brisbane in 2007  Amercan Medical Informatics Conference  Discussion with NHS and equivs?  Talk more on an list??  Aime – good conference venue – Amsterdam 2007  Health Digital Libraries workshop – a natural forum  See workshop page!
