An updated Baseline Design for MICE From proposal to technical reference Paul Drumm, Dec 2003

Why, How and When? Many ideas and advances since proposal –Proposal is out of date! –Which ideas are to be included? –What is the current design? What should we do now? –Update proposal to –Create a Technical Reference Document –In time for March 2003 Collaboration meeting What can we do in 3 months? –Advantage = document (mostly) current status –it is for our own use! Document (in detail) the current design status

DRAFT 1.Introduction 2.Conceptual Design of MICE 3.RF System 4.Absorber Module 5.Beam & Beam Line 6.Detectors & MeasurementDetectors & Measurement 7.Effects of Radiation on detectors 8.Engineering IntegrationEngineering Integration 9.Slow Controls, Instrumentation and the Experimental Interface 10.Safety Issues 11.Quality Control 12.Responsibilities, Costs, Funding and Schedule 13.Summary Document Sections Editors Authors Checkers WBS

Document Format An electronic Document –Needs to be useful in paper form Should contain links to the details –maintain original format –controlled set of documents Issue as a self contained CD –Well defined baseline design –(re) Issued after every collaboration meeting

Scope Description of the current activities –Like the proposal; –updated text & figures where appropriate Supporting documents: –Detailed Specifications –Engineering Drawings –Spreadsheets –Calculations –Simulations

Editorial Board Technical Board will monitor progress: –Consistency –Meets with the parameters (e.g. stay clear) –Agree! Documents (as they appear) to be made available on web for open comment Video Conferences will be used as a forum

Starting gun? 1.Discussion at the Executive Board 2.Send out draft document layout with –Names of Editors, –Names of Authors, –Names of Checkers –On Thursday pm (GMT) 3.First Response wanted by 12 th December 4.Review state on TB meeting 16 th /17 th

DRAFT Detectors & Measurement 1.Overview 2.Time of Flight detectors 1.ToF0 2.ToF1 3.ToF2 3.Up stream Cherenkov detector 4.Down stream Cherenkov detector 5.Tracker Module 6.The Baseline design – SiFi 7.R&D – TPG 8.Tracker Solenoid 9.SiFi - Tracker Solenoid integration 10.Calorimeter 11.Data Acquisition 12.Analysis and Simulation 13.Integration 14.Safety 15.Cost and Schedule
