EcoHarmony Team Members: Grady Laksmono, George Navarro, Yet Ming Chu Faculty Advisor: Dr. Eun-Young (Elaine) Kang Department of Computer Science College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology California State University, Los Angeles Introduction EcoHarmony is a real time strategy single player game that presents a society consisting of four different zones. In the game, the player acts like a god that has the objective of maintaining economic and environmental balance of the society. Each zone in the game represents a particular aspect or component of a society that the player has to consider throughout the game for maintaining balance. The stability of the society is measured by the harmony level that is directly proportional to the population size of the society. The player needs to move the creatures from one zone to the other to maintain the economic and environmental balance and teach creatures to make decisions. Throughout the game, groups of termites will be attacking the society by destroying buildings, steal the food supply, and attack the creatures. Game Play The game starts out with the maximum population of the society in which the player has to maintain. There are three different levels in the game. Each of the levels has its own main challenges and a time limit. The player must destroy all of the termites before the time limit ends. In addition, the player has the choice to command the creatures to build sand barrier around the buildings to reduce the termite’s damages on the building. The sand barrier will only last for a period of time and cost resources. The resources will be taken from the forest and affect the environment, which eventually will reduce the balance and harmony. The player must maintain at least fifteen creatures in the first level. Termites will be attacking the society, and the player must command the creatures to counter- attack the termites before the size of the population goes below fifteen, more buildings destroyed, and the time limit ends. In the second level, the player must keep at least ten creatures alive. In addition, the player must maintain the food supplies of the society by making sure that there are enough farmers. The player can create more famers by instructing the creatures to go to the farm zone. In the third level, the player must keep at least five creatures alive. In addition to the objective of the first and second level, the player must maintain the economic stability of the society by making sure that there are enough industry workers. The player can create more industry workers by instructing the creatures to go to the industry zone. Special thanks to our mentor, Dr. Eun-Young (Elaine) Kang, for guiding us throughout the competition, Dr. Chengyu Sun for setting up our SVN server to facilitate our development, Dr. Raj Pamula for giving us his full support to our team, and Dallim Park, Alumni of Art Department, for creating the main menu and heads-up display image. The team BlueScreen submitted EcoHarmony to the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2009 competition for the Game Development.
