A Policy-Based Optical VPN Management Architecture

Motivation Advances and convergence of IP and optical networking: ● Intelligent IP-based distributed optical control plane: Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) ● Provisioning of advanced connectivity services Successful deployment of IP and MPLS-based Virtual Private Network (VPN) services How to provide VPN services on GMPLS-enabled optical networks? Optical VPN enable multiple customer networks to share a single optical infrastructure

Approach Optical VPN service configuration management Policy-Based Management Web Services management interface Management-based VPN Service Model

Proposed Solution Policy definition and classification: ● Configuration ● Admission Control ● Routing Proposed Architecture: ● Policy-based OVPN management architecture

Conclusion and Future Work Prototype implementation and simulations: ● Feasibility of the proposed architecture Our main contribution has been to demonstrate how policy-based management can simplify and automate Optical VPN management Future work includes: ● How to provide Optical VPN services over multiple routing domains? ● How VPN resource allocation can benefit from policy- based management?
