Tribostand Meeting 16/01/09 | © ITC-AICE Sample preparation White opaque ceramic glass samples were prepared and sent to all partners, in order to be able to know the behaviour of the sample substrate Samples to be coated were cut as well. They were sent to AIN with the aim of coating them using both kinds of layers: DLC and PVD. The coating process is still in progress Samples were cut depending on the needings of each participant. These samples have been referenciated depending on their original piece of material

Tribostand Meeting 16/01/09 | © ITC-AICE ITC Tests | Porosity Conclusions  Influence of analysed screen number No less than 40 screens. If the sample is really porous, this number has to be increased  Influence of the magnification 10x or 20x depending on the thickness of the coating  Influence of the technitian Only if technitians are used to carrying out this kind of test, there are no such a difference between obtained results

Tribostand Meeting 16/01/09 | © ITC-AICE ITC Tests| Roughness Conclusions  Roughness parameters between techniques can be compared if they are measured under the same conditions: filter, cut-off and measured area  Selected filters does not introduce any difference in the roughness parameters in the range of work studied (Ra < 4µm (cut-off 0.8mm))  It is convenient to use Gaussian filter (optical profilometry) and ISO4287 filter (contact perfilometry) in order to avoid phase distorsion in the measures
