HALMSTAD UNIVERSITY Content of course Lectures (theory) “Organizational Change, Barbara Senior and Jocelyne Fleming, third edition, Prentice Hall”. The context of organizational change and what causes it (chapter 1-2). The formal and informal aspects of organizational life, structure, culture, politics and leadership. (chapter 3-6). The practicalities of managing change in the sense of designing, planning and implementing change (chapter 7-8). HALMSTAD UNIVERSITY ”Live case” (applying theory in practice) You will act as “organization consultants”, working with Elfi Elektrofilter. The “live case” will be presented for you by the CEO, Jan-Olof Wallin the 4/9. The 22/10, you present the result for the management group at the company, both orally and in a written report. They then select the best idea/s. The “live case” will have the following structure: 1.Diagnose opportunities/problems and examine the causes 2.Come up with alternative solutions 3.Provide direction in the implementation of suggestion Be prepared and have the first meeting with the CEO on the afternoon of the 4/9

HALMSTAD UNIVERSITY Elfi Elektrofilter AB ELFI Elektrofilter AB is a Swedish company with more than 30 years of experience of development and manufacturing of electrostatic air cleaner. We make and sell electrostatic filter for air cleaning of intake air ventilation, smoking room and comfort air cleaning for asthmatics and allergic persons. The activity is located at Alingsås and includes air cleaners at home, offices, daycare centers, schools, for ventilation plants and smoking-rooms and development of air cleaning for example heat exchangers.

HALMSTAD UNIVERSITY SIMBIZ (an interactive business simulation case) To understand change through the dilemma between efficiency (achieving existing objectives) and effectiveness (adaptabillity) over time. Five board meetings (15/9, 22/9, 29/9, 6/10 and 13/10), 30 minutes for each group (6 students), where you present your strategy and decisions to be approved by the board (both orally and written). One shareholders' (general) meeting 20/10 The ”winner” is the group with best result (according to 8 goals) and the end of the simulation! Handout of case description and assignment.

HALMSTAD UNIVERSITY SIMBIZ (8/9) Do a complete analyse of the company (see case description) How will the management group (you) work with developing the company, i.e. strategy (take the company from current state to the desired state)? Do a business plan and operationalize it (decisions to be filled in) Motivate your decisions using theory Present during 10 minutes per group your ideas, on Tuesday the 8/9 for whole class. Then, introduction and start of the business simulation.

Username: Passwords: halmstad5 halmstad5 ORBIS includes full searching facilities and global standard report format for in-depth international searching and analysis. ORBIS has information on over 57 million companies. Zephyr has detailed financial company information.

HALMSTAD UNIVERSITY Literature seminar Each group consisting of three students presents the essence of one article during 10 minutes using a Power point presentation. Then the student group leads a discussion (also 10 minutes), on how to practically apply the theories/findings in the article on the “live case” and/or SIMBIZ. The group also hands in a two-page summary of the article, where they pose two exam questions formulated from the article together with the correct answers.

HALMSTAD UNIVERSITY Supplemental Instruction (SI) leader course Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic assistance program that utilizes peer-assisted study sessions. You will act as “mentors” and “change leaders” for the students who have started the first year on Navid’s course “Entrepreneurship and Innovation” (Groups of 2 – supports 4). You will acquire a certificate as a SI leader, when you have passed the course. More information tomorrow (whole day SI intro seminar). Hand out manual!

The seminars and board meetings will be judged from the activity of participation as well as the individual contribution to the group presentation. To receive the grade Pass with distinction for the whole course you need passed with distinction on both the “live case” as well as the written exam.
