Many universities are requiring students to purchase laptops Free wireless internet access is very common on university and community college campuses Professors report that since last year the number of students using laptops in class has risen significantly Laptops in the classroom

Faculty are beginning to notice that students are more interested in shopping online and instant messaging than engaging in class Some universities are now blocking internet access to classrooms, or not allowing students to have laptops in class Are they really taking notes?

Bentley College (among others) have installed switches in classroom to turn off or allow internet functions: , internet, campus webpages Last month, University of Chicago Law school banned laptops from classrooms (with protest from the students) Selective internet

Some faculty argue that the internet and laptops are too distracting for the classroom, and cause people to not pay attention Some faculty and students argue that if lectures were more engaging and interesting this wouldn’t be a problem Two sides to the story...
