CTC 312 Measuring & Dimensioning

Measuring Measure distance –Between pts, along element, perp. from element, min. dist. between elements Measure radius Measure angle Measure length Measure area –Element, fence, union, difference, intersection, flood, pts Measure volume (3d)

Dimensioning – 3 types 1.Linear 2.Angular 3.Radial

Dimension Line Line w/ markers at each end Markers could be arrows, dots, or ticks Dimension text can be above or within the line

Extension Lines Lines that extend from the object to the dimension line Usually perpendicular to the dimension line

Arrows Placed on ends of dimension line

Dimension Text Text string showing actual measurement

Leader Line from text to an object

Two Methods of Dimensioning Associative –Link between object & dimension elements –Change element, dimension changes –Can drop by using drop toolbar Non-associative –Takes more space –Dimension text must be modified if you modify element

Element, Dimension Styles Can modify and save settings as a dimension style –Geometry (appearance of dimension geometry) –Units –Text –Symbology –Advanced
