Historians value Provide insight into prevailing attitudes and changes in attitudes over time Provide a narrative of events Provide variety of different views since many publications are written with a particular political bent and for a specific audience Generally available in many libraries and often with indexing

Using Magazines Limited to modern history Most popular magazines date only from the 19 th century when literacy rates climbed May be difficult to use May not have good indexing Many articles will be short and may not provide in-depth coverage of a topic In the UW Libraries Some issues may be in storage, in Special Collections or on microfilm

Your article What is the article about? What is the magazine? Does it have a political slant (scan through the issue, read the publisher’s statement if available, look at the ads) For what topics would this article be useful?
